While in a fight with one of their greatest archenemies-the fearsome Krang-our heroes in a half-shell were jettisoned on a one way trip across the Multiverse. From the shadows, they protect the citizens of their city from evil ninja clans, dangerous mutants, and interdimensional tyrants of all shapes and sizes. Firmly recommended.Download and play as TMNT - Deep below the surface, in the sewers of New York City, four turtle brothers were mutated by radioactive ooze and began training in the art of ninjutsu. Still, we ended up with a pretty good TMNT game. It feels like WayForward had ambition to make a great TMNT game, but they collided with Activision's insistence on using the license for cheap shovelware, and they didn't get the time and money they needed. The city is massive and fun, with each area looking just unique enough so you will know where you are, but crossing back and forth can become a chore in ways that it's not in Super polished games like Super Metroid. The fighting is deep, but the enemies are a bit clunky and repetitive.
The game works, but if feels like they got it together just in time to get out the door. It's clear that it could have benefitted from more polish and playtesting. If you like those kind of games, you will probably like this. But this game is a sidescrolling adventure firmly in the "Metroidvania" style. Most TMNT games go for a brawler style, given the popularity of the old arcade game. It's different from a lot of turtle games though.
From the start menu, to a hilarious gag at the file name screen, and beyond, the game has a great presentation. I picked up the 3ds copy in the master splinter two pack that is available for the 3ds, but the game seems the same as it's stand alone release, and is identical to the console versions.
